Winton School PTA News Update
Winton School PTA President’s Report 2012 - 13
Wow!
– What a year we had last year. I’m still surprised about what we
managed to achieve. The PTA fundraised nearly $32,000 and I have to say
it felt like it. A very satisfying feeling however! ☺
As you are
all aware, the main focuses for all our fundraising has been the Lunch
Area and the Outdoor Play Area. The Lunch Area is now completed and
looks fantastic at a cost of nearly $16,000 to the PTA. Many thanks
again to CraigPine Timber & Southbuild ITM for their generous
donations of timber. The funding for the new Outdoor Play Area has also
been secured and the contractors have now completed the job with only
the lines to be marked out. Another great asset for our school.
Most
of the funding for these projects was raised through a variety of
fundraisers. We appear to be getting quite the reputation of willing
bbq-ers! Last year we raised nearly $8,000 alone from bbqs. Many thanks
to all the parent volunteers who always answer the call for help, be it
for the Friday Sausage Sizzle, Southland Demonstration Farms or the
Waimumu Field Days. Amazing effort!
We also changed the format
of the bi-annual “Big Day Out”, thanks to the inspiration of Nikki Hume
& Keri Hindle. Instead, we had a very successful “Family Fun Day”.
Between the generosity of our local businesses and the constant support
from our Winton School families we raised over $11,000 from the raffle,
cash sponsors and activities on the day. Shame however about the
weather yet again. One day we’ll get it right.
The remainder of
funds was raised from our uniform sales, the “Winton wide” garage sale,
the food fundraiser, disco, scrap metal sales, end of year raffle and
Entertainment Books. All of these combined raised over a total of
$10,000.
After all of the above, a night of socializing was
called for. Nikki & I organized a golf challenge between the PTA,
Staff & Board of Trustees for the end of year entertainment. And
entertaining it was!!! Congratulations to the PTA for winning the
trophy for the inaugural year. Look out for this years entry forms in
November. Everyone welcome!
Sadly we farewelled a number of
people from the school and PTA. Jodi Robertson & Kylie Arnesen left
us for Wanaka. Their enthusiasm will be missed! Also, Andrew Smith, our
former principal, left us for Windsor North School after 7 successful
years. However, we welcomed our new principal, Steve Wadsworth and look
forward to working with him and seeing him develop our school even
further.
A huge thank you to the PTA committee. It’s great to
work with people who are willing and able to share the work load to
help achieve the projects we under take. This year everyone took on a
delegated area of fundraising/roles and this has made the PTA a united
and enjoyable committee to be a part of. To Lisa Kennedy & Kim
Leith – you have both done a great job keeping the minutes, financials
and me under control.
At the end of the day, all we have
achieved would not be possible without the wonderful support we receive
from the families at Winton School and our local community. Our
children are the biggest winners of our success, so be proud of your
contributions.
Thank You
Janet Anderson Winton School PTA President
Congratulations to Janelle Davison, our new PTA Secretary.
PTA events to Watch Out For:
Entertainment Books:
These will be coming home with your eldest child on
Monday/Tuesday next week. Lots of great offers and it’s easy to recover
the cost of the book in just a couple of transactions. Feel free to
offer to family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues etc. For every
book sold the PTA gets $11.00.
Quiz Night (Thursday 16th May 2013):
Challenge your partner, family or friends in a quiz night. See if they
really do know as much as they think they do!!!!!!!. Steve Wadsworth is
our Quiz Master, so come & see him in action too. Great prizes
& raffles to be won. Look out for more information in the
newsletter next term.

Keep an eye out for PTA meetings on our school facebook page. A great way
for parents to meet other parents and to find out what’s happening in
and around the school. Hope to see you there!
